StepCast turns a recording of a web task into a step-by-step guide and a narrated video. This page explains what it keeps about you and why.

What StepCast stores

Text typed into password fields is never stored. Screenshots contain whatever was visible on your screen while recording, so check them, and use Blur an area, before you share a guide.

What StepCast does not do

Who can see your guides

Your guides are private to your account. A guide becomes visible to others only when you press Share on it: anyone with that link can then view it, including its screenshots and, if you narrated, the recording of your voice. Stop sharing turns the link off.

The StepCast administrator can view guides for support and to keep the service within its storage limits, and cannot change or delete them.

Analytics on shared guides

When someone opens a shared guide, an embedded guide or a hosted guide video, StepCast records what happened so the guide's owner can see how it is used:

StepCast does not record viewers' names, email or IP addresses for this. Each visit carries a random number, and a second random number stays in the viewer's browser so repeat visits can be counted as one person. Only the guide's owner and the administrator can see the totals. Deleting a guide deletes its analytics.

Where data is kept

Guides and files are stored with Supabase (database and file storage, in Singapore). The website is served by Cloudflare. Sign-in is provided by Google.

Optional AI features

If you add your own OpenAI API key in Voice and AI settings, the step text or narration you choose to process is sent to OpenAI. The key stays in your browser and is never stored by StepCast.

Deleting your data

Delete guide removes that guide and its files. To have your whole account removed, email the address below from the account's email address.
